TEXT ON BACK:

Why Butterflies? • Around the world, the butterfly is viewed as a symbol of hope, transformation and endurance. For that reason, the butterfly is an important symbol of the Highmark Caring Place and an essential element of their logo. Emerging from the broken heart, the butterfly represents hope that can be found in the midst of the pain of loss.

From Darkness to Light • Once the trusting caterpillar is in the dark cocoon, the chrysalis, a special fluid surrounds him. A total breakdown of the caterpillar fuels the unique energy required to form its wings. After time and just before emerging, the brilliant wing colors become visible. The new form reveals itself with wings soft and wet. The exhausted butterfly rests and then becomes ready to fly. Seeing this metamorphosis as it happens is difficult—disturbing a caterpillar inside its cocoon risks ruining the transformation. Providing the necessary time and space allows for this amazing process to occur and the butterfly to take flight.
